Pearl

Hey guys we’re doing a spoiler free review on Pearl. I’m Edgar and I’m Bert. Let’s get right into it with this review of Pearl. This film follows Pearl a country girl in the early 1900s with the desire to star in silent films. Unfortunately, she must help her mother care for her disabled father and help maintain their family farm. While she wishes to be rid of her burdens, the long isolation has taken a great toll on her mental state. She is surrounded by strict rules and morals set by her mother. She makes the decision that nothing will stand in the way of her dreams. Her increasing delusions and desires to dance and be in films further blind from reality pushing her to believe that the only way to get what she wants is to do whatever it takes. Even if that means killing everyone who stands in the way of her dreams. Nothing is going to stop her from becoming the star she is destined to be.

All right let’s get into the film rating so as always, we rate this film in multiple categories. Using a scale of 1 to 5. Five being the best and one being the worst. Let’s get into our first category Suspense. This film really does some unexpected things. It was interesting and confusing. Kept us wondering what was going to happen next. We rate it 2 ½ out of 5 stars. Another part of this film we’re looking at is Action. While this is a horror film this movie is more of a dramatic slasher. It is paced very slowly into its action sequences. The action is not too bad in the film, we believe it gets a 2 ½ out of 5. Las but not least the horror category. This slasher was not traditional in the way most recent movies are. This slasher movie mainly revolved around imagery rather than jump scares and lots of gore. Safe to say it did all right with horror but there is a lot that can be improved, horror category gets a 2 ½ out of 5. That means we’re getting into our personal and critical scores where we give the film an overall score using an alphabetical system with A+ being the highest and D- the lowest. We didn’t know what to expect from this movie its visuals and settings interested us. We thought it was a unique type of psycho slasher film, but we think it was lacking narrative in some parts, so we personally give it a D+. Let’s talk about how we rate Pearl. Critically Pearl is a unique and different type of slasher as we’ve said we saw what the director and writers were envisioning. We also found that it had some great acting, Mia Goth got into the role of Pearl. When we see her psychological breaks, critically we rate Pearl a C-.

That’s all we got for you guys though it wasn’t the film we initially thought it was going to be it was visually good. Go head out and watch it in theaters for yourself. Keep in mind this film is rated R for gore, sexual themes, and violence. It is not suited for younger children.
